What is the Rail Planner app?
The Rail Planner app is a tool that allows you to search for information about trains wherever you are. It works without internet and helps you to quickly access the departure and arrival times of European trains. The application can help you plan your trip in advance and, in addition, it will be useful when you are at a busy train station trying to find your connecting train.
Which functions has?
The Rail Planner application has many useful features. In addition to the available offline schedule that shows you the departure and arrival times of European trains, this application can help you to:
- Make reservations with electronic ticket for trains in Italy. For this you will need to have an Internet connection.
- Find train stations near your current position.
- Search information on departures and arrivals in all stations.
- Save the most frequent searches as favorites.
- See all the benefits of Interrail pass holders
- See the maps of the main European cities.
- Read data on all participating countries.
Know how to find trains without reservations
If you want to travel on trains that do not need to be booked, the Rail Planner app can help you find them. In the trip planner, use the extended search option and select “Trains without mandatory reservation”. You can check how to do it in the image shown on the right. Thus, when searching for trains, the Rail Planner application will only show you those that do not need a reservation.
Tips on using the application
In the summary of the search results does not appear if it is necessary to make a reservation for the trains. You must open and expand the search results to know if it is necessary to book. In the Rail Planner app, Thello trains (Paris to Milan and Venice) appear as “EN” (EuroNight). The Thello is not included in the Eurail – Eurail pass, but you will get a 25% discount on the full fare ticket. These trains are listed as follows:
- Paris – Milan / Venice: EN 221
- Venice / Milan – Paris: EN 220
Keep that in mind!
The Rail Planner application has some limitations. The main one is that it will not be able to inform you of possible delays. For this reason, be sure to take a look at the information panels at the train station. It is also not possible to make reservations for trains or hotels through the Rail Planner application.
